Recently I wasn't interested in romance dramas where they go through hell to get together in the end. I'm sick of seeing crying faces, possessive parents, life altering illnesses and jealous ex girlfriends. So now, I'm moving towards horror, detective, murder/thriller, revenge, comedy stories. I enjoy the suspense and the thrill of seeing people going all out to revenge. LOL. evilness. That's why after all the intriguing horror/detective/revenge drama that is enough to make you sleepless (i mean some are really THAT disturbing), you need a dose of comedy.
1) Mei-Chan no Shitsuji ![]() Synopsis: Mei-chan no Shitsuji is about a poor girl, Mei, whom after her parents' accidental death, she discovers that she's actually the heiress to a fortune, and is forced to transfer to St. Lucia Girls' Academy, where all the students have butlers! As a result, her childhood friend Kento decides to enroll in a butler school so that he can stay close to her. This drama is funny, cute, touching, over the top corny and extremely unrealistic. But that's what makes it entertaining. Even though the female protagonist gets annoying at times, the rest of the cast makes up for it. Besides, its only 10 episodes (Jdramas are so straight to the point!). Better than having to watch a drama of 24 episodes and hated it at the end right. But still, I wish it's longer than 10 episodes. (If anyone notice, japanese are better at school dramas, they always have a HUGE cast and everyone is involved in the storyline with lots of bonding going on. and LASTLY! they still keep it short) 2) Special A ![]() Synopsis: Hikari Hanazono has always been second to Kei Takishima. When they were six years old, their pro-wrestling loving fathers introduced them to each other. Assuming that she was the best in wrestling, young Hikari challenged Kei to a wrestling match only to be thoroughly defeated by him. Ever since that fateful incident, Hikari swore to beat Kei in school grades, sporting events - anything. To do this, she has enrolled in the same school as Kei since elementary. Now she attends Hakusenkan, an ultra elite school, that costs her carpenter father a lot of money. Hikari and Kei are the top two students in the school, with Kei holding firmly to that number one position. While Hikari considers Kei to be a rival and important friend, she is completely unaware that Kei loves her. The story primarily focuses on Hikari and her constant attempts to defeat her one and only rival, Kei, and how she finds love in their rivalry. HILARIOUS anime (though it's not 100% comedy, there's quite a few serious moments too). It's funny when its supposed to. I like it as much as I like Ouran High School Host Club. The plot ain't complicated (typical), and all you need to do is laugh. It's good if you don't want to spend your time watching a long running anime like naruto/bleach/hitman reborn..blah blah. No commitment needed. 24 episodes only. 3) Skip Beat! ![]() Synopsis: It is the story of Kyoko Mogami, a 16-year-old girl who discovers that her childhood friend and romantic goal, Sho Fuwa, only keeps her around to act as a maid and earn his living expenses, as he works his way to become the top pop idol in Japan. Furious and heart broken, she vows to get revenge by beating him in show business. This is a good anime. At first, I thought its just a lame storyline of a girl wanting to revenge. But, its more than that. It started from where she join the show business for the sake of revenging to end up having a passion/talent for acting. The manga is ongoing for 6 years now, and i don't have a feeling that its ending anytime soon lol. But still, the anime is worth watching. (many would end up reading the manga instead) 4) Gakuen Alice ![]() Synopsis: Best friends Mikan and Hotaru grew up in a small town in the remote countryside. When Hotaru moves to a school for geniuses in Tokyo, Mikan misses Hotaru so badly that she decides to travel to Tokyo herself to find Hotaru. She finds Hotaru in a school called "Alice Academy," and finds that the school is actually for people with special powers called "Alices." Narumi-sensei, a teacher at the school, discovers that Mikan also happens to have an alice, and Mikan is permitted into the academy. Frankly, its a pretty old anime. But I enjoyed watching it and was really disappointed that it won't have a season 2, because the manga itself is still ongoing. Also, the storyline wasn't as kiddy and cute as it looked, the manga was pretty dark and on the surface, Gakuen Alice is a fun, charming school story about cute kids with special powers, but it's also full of bullies, angst-filled pasts and mysterious adults. A must-watch/read for me. more to come. . |
